Senator Andrew Zwicker, Assemblyman Roy Freiman, and Assemblywoman Mitchelle Drulis are pleased to announce that, through a collaborative effort between the legislative offices and the New Jersey Department of Transportation, work on the crucial Route 206 infrastructure project has immediately resumed.

Roman Asphalt Corporation, a well-known union contractor out of Kearny, NJ, has been selected as the new heavy highway construction contractor for the infrastructure initiative. “We are thrilled to share with the community that Roman Asphalt Corporation will be taking over as the contractor for the final phases of the Route 206 construction project,” said Senator Andrew Zwicker (D-South Brunswick). “This project is vital to our community, and we are confident that Roman Asphalt’s experience and dedication will help bring it to a timely completion.”

Assemblyman Roy Freiman (D-Hillsborough) also expressed his enthusiasm for the new development: “Finishing the Route 206 project is a key component to our local transportation flow in Somerset County, and we are excited to see Roman Asphalt Corp step in to complete this important work safely and quickly. Finishing this project will not only improve traffic flow and safety for commuters and local drivers but also bolster local economic growth for the businesses along Route 206 and the quality of life for all of us. This road work has been an eyesore and a safety issue for far too long, and we look forward to continuing to work together with NJDOT and now with Roman Asphalt to ensure that this project reaches its successful conclusion.”

Assemblywoman Mitchelle Drulis (D-Raritan) added, “The selection of Roman Asphalt as the new contractor for the Route 206 project is a significant step forward for this essential infrastructure project. I am grateful that they will be utilizing union labor for this project, which supports jobs for our hardworking, local union members and ensures high standards of construction and safety. I want to thank NJDOT for their focus on advancing this project and I am optimistic about the positive impact it will have on our community. We anticipate a smooth and efficient completion of the remaining work, benefiting all who travel this route.”

The Route 206 upgrade project is a major infrastructure initiative aimed at reducing congestion, enhancing safety, and improving the overall efficiency of one of New Jersey’s major transportation veins. Roman Asphalt Corporation will take over the remaining construction tasks over the coming weeks and months.

The public will be kept informed about the project’s progress through updates on the NJDOT’s communication platforms and through the official channels of the Legislative Offices of Senator Andrew Zwicker, Assemblyman Roy Freiman, and Assemblywoman Mitchelle Drulis.
